Introduction

The High Potential Individual Visa Route is a new visa route introduced by the UK Government. The object of this visa route is to attract the most highly skilled persons from world over to the UK. The High Potential Individual Visa Route will be open from 30 th May 2022. The eligibility for the High Potential Individual Visa is graduation from a non-UK university which finds a place in the global universities list
published by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI).

No Requirement of Sponsorship

There is no requirement for sponsorship and no job offer is required. The application fee is £715. The applicant will also have to bear the Immigration Health Surcharge. The applicant could take up any job and there is no minimum salary requirement. The applicant if a graduate will have permission to work
for 2 years and if a PHD the period would be 3 years. The applicant must meet the English language requirement and financial requirements. Spouse and Children would also be entitled to Dependant visa.

UKVI Global Universities List – Lopsided

The criteria for inclusion in the global universities list, is that the non- UK university must appear on at least two of the following university rankings: Times Higher Education World University Rankings; Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings; The Academic Ranking of World Universities. UKVI has published a list of 37 universities for the current year. Most Universities in the list are from America the remainder are from European countries, Canada, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and China. The list would be revised every year. The list is lopsided and it is unfortunate that there are no Indian Universities in the current year global universities list. It would have been equitable if geographical aspect was also a criteria in choosing the Universities for inclusion in the global universities list.
